In keeping with the new portal system that is now in place. First you need to enter your admin panel, open up number 3, and click portal settings. figure1. 
Now from that list click popular, You will now be able to enter the components parameters. The parameters breakdown: Count = 10 => How many items to show. Topics = 1000 => Check last ### topics. This allows older popular topics to fall off the list. Link to = FORUM => You can link to the FORUM, a portal CONTENT display or a custom link such as 'mydisplay.html' which will have the result parameters appended to it. Filter = ALL/PORTAL => Search all forums with guest access or just forums in the list below or in OPTIONS if no list is given here. Portal Forums = 3(test portals on here) => If set this is a comma seperated list of forums this portal will look at. Placed in a forum template, you would have:
